Improving 50th Ward schools

The 50th Ward has some of the best schools in the City of Chicago, and they are getting better! Debra has helped bring tens of millions of dollars to local public schools for much-needed additions and improvements. She also gave out $100,000 in grants to local public and private schools. Debra passes out hundreds of backpacks stuffed with school supplies to local students every year to make sure all our local children have the resources they need to succeed in school.

The 50th Ward has some of the best schools in the city. Debra helped bring more than $68 million in funding over the last few years to help make those schools even better. Rogers Elementary School and Decatur Classical School both received large annex additions. The Rogers addition greatly eases the school’s overcrowding, while Decatur’s addition allowed the school to expand to accommodate 7th and 8th grade students. Armstrong School of International Studies also received a beautiful new outdoor recreational and play area, while Stone Scholastic Academy and Boone Elementary School got new playgrounds . These new improvements will help 50th Ward children continue their education in the most conducive environment possible.
Debra is committed to making sure every 50th Ward student has access to a quality education. To help, she allocated $100,000 in grant money to local non-profit organizations in 2022, including $80,000 for 50th Ward schools. The money was used for youth enrichment activities at both public and private institutions in the neighborhood.
The more barriers you remove, the better students succeed in school and in life. Debra is committed to making sure every 50th Ward child has the resources they need to thrive. Through her popular Back to School Fair, she gives out hundreds of backpacks stuffed with school supplies to local students every year. 50th Ward families know they can always reach out to her with any school issues and she will advocate strongly on their behalf with CPS and with the school principals.
