Who We Are

Working together to keep our community safe & beautiful

Debra Silverstein has been Alderman of the 50th Ward since 2011 and has enjoyed the support of her community as she works to improve our neighborhood.

As Alderman, she is dedicated to ensuring the safety of the 50th Ward. She works closely with the local police commanders and with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to make sure law enforcement have all the resources they need to keep the neighborhood a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

Highlights of Debra’s first three terms as Alderman include her commitment to improving the safety, beauty, and economic strength of the 50th Ward. Working with the community, she built a beautiful, new state-of-the-art library at Pratt & Western, revitalized our business district with the Devon Avenue Streetscape, brought millions of dollars to local public schools, and added new and improved parks to the neighborhood.

Please join the campaign to help make sure the 50th Ward remains the best neighborhood in the City of Chicago!

2011

Debra takes office

Seeing a vital need for effective leadership in the 50th Ward, Debra began her first term as Alderman. Her tenure has been focused on improving the safety, beauty, and economic strength of the 50th Ward.

2013

Breaking ground

Debra worked closely with residents to redevelop the 50th Ward’s commercial corridors. The $15 million Devon Avenue streetscape is a massive transformation of one of the city’s most visited and successful business districts.

2017

Improving our parks

The 50th Ward is a fantastic place to raise a family. Debra works to make it even better. We added the new Stone Park to the corner of Devon & McCormick, as well as renovated the playgrounds in the neighborhood with beautiful new equipment.

2019

New Northtown Library

Debra worked with the community to bring a new state-of-the-art library to the 50th Ward. At 16,000 square feet, the new facility dwarfs the old branch. The library features all the modern amenities and is topped by CHA senior housing, so everyone can enjoy it.

2022

Reimagining Western Ave

Debra pushed the city for a comprehensive plan to reimagine the future of Western Avenue. The corridor study will transform a five-mile stretch of the avenue, from Howard Street in the 50th Ward south to Addison.
